John A. Crivello

On Sunday December 18th, John A. Crivello passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and loved ones at the age of 85. John was born on May 9, 1931, in what today is known as the Pacheco Club, to Nino and Jane Crivello. John graduated from both Monterey High School and Monterey Peninsula College.  He earned his Financial Management Certificate, and earned advanced certifications while attending classes at schools such as Harvard, Princeton, and UCLA.   Loved by all and a stranger to few, John lived a long, happy, and successful life. From growing up as a meat salesmen to becoming recognized as one of the country’s best salespeople for Metropolitan Life, John truly built his life from nothing. During his 50 years with MetLife, John earned countless awards and accolades. As a young adult, he enlisted in the Navy, where he served for four years and traveled all around the world.

At the age of 28 he met the love of his life, Dorothy Crivello, and with all the money to his name, John bought Dorothy a Cadillac as a way to woo her and win her hand in marriage. Seven years later, John and Dorothy were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Christina Maria Crivello Romeka. Dorothy and John have enjoyed 56 years of marriage and a wonderful life together.

Later in John’s professional life, he began investing in real estate. We all know John as Mr. Monterey, starting his mornings early at the Pacheco Club and then continuing to make his rounds throughout Monterey, always ending up at one of his proudest real estate investments, the Monterey Marriott. Some of his accomplishments also include: founder of Monterey Commercial Property Association, former President of the American Cancer Society, and a mentor to many young “up and coming” young professionals.  John is survived by his wife Dorothy Crivello, brother Robert Crivello, daughter and son-in-law Christina and Don Romeka, and his two grandchildren Johnny and Anna Romeka.

There will be a Rosary held at the Mission Mortuary on Monday December 26th from 5 to 8 pm. Following the Rosary, there will be a funeral service Tuesday December 27th at 9:30 am at San Carlos Cathedral. We would like to give a huge thank you to Dr. Tocchet, Father Peter, Father Patrick , and Nancy Washburn from San Carlos Cathedral, the VNA nurses, and our most dedicated caregivers Joanne Garcia, May Aquino, Belle DeGuzman, Marilyn Balmocena, and Adella Baldez.
